Parker: Legal pot a 'good stimulus bill'
Kathleen Parker is an American syndicated columnist that has worked for many new publications. She seems to agree with many other supporters of Proposition 19 that marijuana should be legalized and would make a great stimulus bill. She believes that people no longer need to be punished for possessing a small amount of marijuana, and as a result of this stimulus bill being put into place it would boost the economy by allowing the U.S. to make money off of a new industry and also provide jobs for the people. She states that there are far worse things that are legalized that have a harmful effect on people such as tobacco and alcohol, then marijuana. What do you guys think do you think that marijuana should be legalized or do you think by legalizing marijuana it would cause more harm than good?

With America being a somewhat conservative thinking nation, the issue at hand is not whether the legalization of marijuana will do more harm than good, but if the nation is ready to seriously consider the issue? The legalization of marijuana has been a long-lived issue. There are those that are in favor, and those that are not, but because there has been so much controversy over the subject, conclusion has been delayed whilst arguments continue. There are more harmful vices out there that are available to the public. Tobacco has a long history of trade in the United States, and so has the use of alcohol. Because marijuana was introduced in a fairly new chapter of American history, there is going to be questions and controversy about the substance.
ReplyDeleteIn conclusion, I believe that the government needs to find a way to tax marijuana and propose its introduction to the public. Just arguing about it isn't doing any good.
I completely agree that marijuana should be legalized, taxed, and sold by the government.
ReplyDeleteWhether or not it is legal, it is going to be sold and used. Why not legalize it and pay off some of our nation's debt with that money, instead of having it sold illegally and used to buy drug-dealers guns and Lamborghini's.
It would lower drug-related crimes, help pay off the national debt, and make marijuana less "cool" if the government regulated it. It seems like a win-win situation to me.
